I’m going to post what other previous employees at PERMA have to say about their experience. They deserve to be heard as well.
Employee 1 Experience
I was employed by Perma Mental Health for a number of months in 2023. During my time it was generally well, I kept to myself and did my job. I would say around June people started dropping from the company. The director quit one day and 5 people followed that same day. That was when I started getting weird vibes from the company as no one just up and quits a job without reason. Still, I stayed to myself with my other co-worker in our department and did my job. There had been reviews on google that the owner Dr. Alexander Wills had inappropriate contact with his patients and that is when I just felt off from the company entirely. A couple weeks later I finally had the nerve to stick up for everyone when we were supposed to get paid 8/18/23 and we had not got our direct deposits, supposedly there was an issue with the system but there was no pay stub even generated meaning they did not run it. I have experience working in payroll as my last position was an office manager and I had to do payroll. It must be complete at least the day before you want the employee to be paid. Not all systems work like that but most do. Because of that I sent an email to everyone asking if anyone had gotten paid, no one had. I informed everyone they could submit a claim to the Department of Labor if they hadn't gotten paid as that would mean pay was late. The CEO, Tim Hoekstra, emailed me separately from the chain I had created informing people of their labor laws and also guides in our handbook and asked me not to send out a mass email like that to provide that information. That is illegal as well because employees should know their rights when it comes to wage and labor and what is in our handbook. They then proceeded to say as a courtesy they were paying us early. Well paydays are 5th and 20th and the 20th lands on a Sunday in August of 2023 so per our handbook we get paid the business day before. So they would have been committing an illegal labor violation. They intentionally stated they had not sent anyones direct deposit and also had intentionally planned on originally paying us late by paying us AFTER the 20th. I then informed the company that they could request a paper check per our handbook. When I requested mine I was denied the option of it and then they removed my access to my email and I was sent a text message stating that since idaho is a right to work state I was terminated. I was terminated in retaliation to providing information to the company and simply calling out the illegal labor and wage acts they were committing. I never received my check on time like promised either per their messages. I filed for unemployment and was awarded it as Perma Mental Health created a false narrative of why they fired me, thankfully an investigation was done by the Department of Labor and it was found that I did not commit any workplace misconduct leading to my wrongful termination. The whole situation of being fired and having to go through the unemployment process has left me with ongoing mental health issues that I did not experience prior to my employment at Perma Mental Health. I hope with this letter and supporting documentation people will heed the warning and not support this business either by being a patient or a potential employee of Perma Mental Health. You should always be your first priority and I do not want what has happened to me and multiple other ex employees, (even current employees), and patients to be someone else’s story as well if I can prevent it. There are tons of other great places in the Treasure Valley that can provide exceptional care or employment.
